Update: Week of May 11

Catch up on any work you have missing in Google Classroom.

Complete this End-of-Year Survey as your final assignment.

All school-owned instruments MUST be returned on Monday, May 18 or Tuesday, May 19. Drop off instruments between 8am-12pm; 1pm-3pm in the MIDDLE SCHOOL Band Hall. Mrs. Conard will be there to collect the instruments. You will not be allowed to enter the school building, so you must come around to the back of the school by the dumpsters. Make sure your name is on the instrument case.

Thank you for a great year! Have a great summer!

Update: Week of May 4

5th Grade Band:

I have posted a Music Basics Quiz (due by May 17) and an optional service project for this week. Please take a look in Google Classroom or our online learning website for the assignments, and please mark when assignments are completed. All school instruction will end May 15. At that point, you will have time to catch up on missing assignments and get everything turned in to your teachers.

Bandalorian Challenge is still in progress. Complete all 10 levels and receive the Bandalorian Award! Two students have already completed the challenge and several others are making great progress!

We probably will not have a Zoom meeting this week but I would like to have one next week.

6th Grade Class/Elective Choice Sheets are available online on the middle school website. If you have difficulty finding it, I can email it to you. Sheets need to be returned or emailed as soon as possible (by today!). Band in 6th grade meets every day during the school day and is a year-long class. It is important to take band in 6th grade if you want to be part of our competitive band in 7th and 8th grade. You get 3 elective choices in 6th grade.

What to do with instruments for the summer?

I own my instrument. Keep your instrument at home with you for the summer. Try to send it off for professional cleaning and repair before the start of the school year.

The school provided me with an instrument. You will need to meet Mrs. Conard between 8am-2pm on May 18-19 to return the school instrument so she can send it off for cleaning and repair. Failure to return a school instrument will result in a hold being placed on your student account. You will not be allowed to enter the middle school building. You will need to go to the back of the school and enter the band hall through the band hall doors. You must wear a mask when entering the band hall.

I am renting my instrument from RG's Music. If you are planning on continuing with band for next year, then keep your rental instrument for the summer. You do not want to lose your rental credits that you have paid. Those credits can be used to upgrade to an intermediate or advanced model instrument. If you have decided that you are no longer going to be in band, then you will need to meet Mrs. Conard between 8am-2pm on May 18-19 to return the instrument. Do not leave your instrument with anyone other than a band director! If you do not return your instrument to a band director, you will be responsible for returning it to the company.

I am renting my instrument from another music store. If you are planning on continuing with band for next year, then keep your rental instrument for the summer. You do not want to lose your rental credits that you have paid. Those credits can be used to upgrade to an intermediate or advanced model instrument. If you have decided that you are no longer going to be in band, then you will need to return it to the music store that you rented it from.

That's all the news for now! If you have any questions, contact a band director.

Important Announcement from Mrs. Conard

5th Grade Band and Parents,

What a crazy time this is! I hope you are staying healthy and safe at home. It hurts me to think that your last days in elementary school might be spent at home and not with your friends and classmates. It hurts me to think that we might not get to have a Spring concert and make music together again this school year. I am truly sorry about all of this, and we will get through it together.

This page is your main source for 5th grade band information. Please bookmark this page. Check the online learning tab for band assignments and educational links. A good habit would be to check every Monday for new information. Announcements and reminders will also be sent out through e-notes. If you are not receiving 5th grade band e-notes, please let me know.

I know your other teachers are probably giving you a lot of homework. I don't want you to stress out over band adding more work to that, but you do need to continue practicing your instrument at home. Playing your instrument is a great way to pass the time, and it will make you (and the band) better! Musicians can never be bored! Here's a little something I did this week with a few other flutists from all over the world:

I miss making music with all of you, and I know you miss band and all your friends, too. Hope to see you all again very soon. If you need anything, please email me or Mr. V.

Musically,

Danette Conard
